Artist's description:

a man of principle

With an engaging manner, elegantly attired and hair all over the place, the Labour politician Peter Shore (1924-2001) cut an unmistakable figure. His views seldom chimed with his party or the nation, and despite his good intent, high intellect and hard working character, he never became the national leader he aspired to be. He always passionately opposed Britain's membership of EEC (later to become EU) and his speeches from the 1970's have lately been revisited by those interested in 'Brexit'. The stark difference between Peter and many of today's professional Brexit supporters is that Peter held to genuine beliefs, he was a man of principle. Alas, it seems that many of today's politicians act as if the most important thing to them is their own career. It is always right to follow one's conscience, and no election candidate ever declared that if elected, they would chase the wind.

This print is pulled from relief plates cut from sheets of rubber, a variation of letterpress. After removal of areas that are not be printed, the cut rubber sheets are each rolled up with ink and pressed to paper, producing the print. The completed edition made 5 copies. The paper and ink are of high quality and should present no keeping difficulty. The print would fit straight into a 10x12 inch frame if required.
