Inspired by Andy Warhol's 'Death and Disaster'-series I made this painting of myself taking in a scene of Dutch riot police molesting a protestor in the Hague on march 14 last year.
The protestor got hit multiple times on the head and was mauled several times by a police dog.
The UN's special rapporteur on torture Nils Melzer described the scene as 'one of the most disgusting scenes of police brutality I have seen since George Floyd'.
Unfortunately this scene is not a stand-alone incident. Police has used a water-canon on a woman's head which slammed her into a concrete wall, protestors were trampled by police horses and even thrown under a police van.
I've seen footage of a policeman taking a wheelchair from an elderly lady. A teenager got punched in the face with bare hands by a policeman.
Undercover agents (so called Romeo's or agent-provacateurs) were used to start riots themselves so the riot police had a reason to intervene. All of this is bad, very bad.
