The ephemerality of weather and clouds can be felt in this plein air painting, with different weathers in various parts of the scene. The distant fishing boats are bobbing along through rapidly changing light and shadow, under the rain clouds and patches of blue sky. It's an urban seascape featuring industrial buildings which contrast with the ancient castle of Mountbatten, giving a contemporary feel. The primary colours of the little boats, coastal greys and large areas of reflected light give a soft, harmonious atmosphere . A spacious scene that is enjoyable to explore, offering mini scenes and stories within the main composition.
