"She's Nobody's Fool, 2015" by Sal Jones

“'She's Nobody's Fool' is an exploration of the face and expression as cultural iconography. The subjects are derived from existing photographic sources; the resulting painting, although familiar, is not meant to represent one specific person but a particular type of common identity connecting a genre. The title is from a quote by Richard Burton describing his then wife Elizabeth Taylor - a reference to her can be seen in the painting. She was one of the last stars of classic Hollywood and one of the first modern celebrities.”

"Secret In The Sky, 2015" by Cynthia Ligeros

“Secret in the Sky is about gaining perspective on your life. When I started this painting, at first I couldn't connect to it. I felt too close to really see it, so I couldn't finish it. Instead, I turned it to face the wall. A month later, when I finally turned it around and looked at it again, I started to see how the circles and negative space played off of each other. It looked a little planetary, a little otherworldly. Like a photo of space. So I added trails of light around the circles to harmonize them and bring them into a balanced coexistence. Every once in a while, we all need to get that kind of perspective. It makes all the difference.”

"Carnival - Bonfires, 2016" by Anja Stemmer

“At the southern rim of the Alps, it is an ancient tradition to have huge bonfires assembled uphill during carnival season. The fires in ancient times were supposed help expel the demons of darkness and at some places, the young men would use them to heat up discs of wood, which are then - glowing orange/red - driven down the valley with a stick while shouting some typical verses. This abstract painting with its color and surface reminds of this tradition - seeing both the darkness and the fire, the sparks and the wood in it.”

"LOST IN A SUNSET..., 2016" by Cristina Mihailescu

“'Lost in a Sunset' is a beautiful, romantic piece bathed in glowing light, color, textures, energy and much love. Lively and spontaneous brush strokes were used in order to capture the momentary effects of sunlight and the atmosphere. Enjoy!”

"Etched Upon My Memory, 2015" by Adam Hornsby

“Etched Upon My Memory is the latest in my series of portraits of Becky Holt. Becky is iconic within the tattoo community and has a face recognisable the world over. It was especially fascinating painting Becky as she views herself as a work of art in a way. Her tattooed body is almost a gallery, like she is a collection of artworks that combine to create a whole representation of herself and then displayed on her flesh for the world to see. It was an amazing challenge to capture her and her tattoos, not just on a technical level, but on a deeper one: to make this painting really feel like Becky.”

"No Time To Think" by Valery Koroshilov

“Painting is one passion in my life, skiing - is the other. As a young person, I was trained in competitive cross-country skiing, now I teach my children on the alpine slopes during winter holidays. I love everything about it: the speed, the risk, the views of the wintery slopes, skies and forests, the everchanging weather and snow, the mountain air. It's like being in a fairytale!”

"Fioritura, 2015" by Theresa Shaw

“Fioritura, Italian for "flourish", or "flowering" is a musical term meaning the florid embellishment of melodic lines, either notated by a composer or improvised during a performance. It usually involves lengthy, complex embellishments and I thought how appropriate for this new work from me: multi-layered with personal expression and tons of added detail - I loved painting this one and I think it shows!”

"Iceberg Sketch 3, 2016" by LARA DAVIES

“My works are mainly land and seascapes, which I use as a vehicle to explore the medium of paint, and the process of mark making. I enjoy working with oil on wooden panels, applying the paint in thin layers, allowing the texture of the wood to come through and playing with the consistency of the paint to give the impression of ice and snow. I love the beauty and majesty of icebergs, and the contradiction between the solid, seemingly indestructible mass below the water, and the knowledge that a small temperature rise could quickly destroy the monumental structures.”

"Beauty of Sycamore" by Ramya Sarveshwar

“Sycamore cove is a beautiful, scenic place with great rock formations off the Pacific Coast highway at Malibu,CA. I had been there on a weekend and was taken in by the beauty, the scene came together, the distant rocky mountains, the rocks glowing in the light cast by the sun, the gentle waves all an artists dream. I am so happy to have captured its beauty.”

"Fearless, 2015" by Paolo Borile

“Fearless is the result of an idea which came to me while watching the news. In this painting I wanted to match the idea of courage with the innocence of children. Matteo, my nephew who poses for me in this artwork, instructs us to not be afraid of change.”
