"so shelter me, 2014" by Emily Hughes

“‘So Shelter Me’ is a simple poetic expression of a basic human need for love, compassion, and shelter. This black and white photograph is a composite image created by layering and blending multiple photographic images. Here I am working exclusively with images produced by a medium format analogue camera on slow, fine grain black and white film. The film is then scanned and the final image assembled in the digital darkroom.”

"Happiness 1, 2014" by Alex Ebdon

“In my work as a portrait artist I’ve always been fascinated by drawing and painting eyes. This study is part of a series within which I’m exploring the fundamental human emotions – happiness, sadness, fear, anger, disgust and surprise – which are all innately recognised in others through our expressions. With this piece I wanted to explore how we communicate happiness in our faces beyond the smile of the mouth. And they say that a true smile is always in the eyes. I used a mix of techniques on the painting, largely with a palette knife, working in oils.”

"MARY DROPPINS, 2014" by Sue Rowe

“This picture is a collage depicting a serious army image combined with Mary Poppins to create an ironic Banksy inspired composition. The collage is made from cut-out pieces of coloured vinyl hand applied to white A3 card, making it truly unique!”

"Holywell Bay" by Simon Knight

“This is Holywell Bay, a place where we spend as much time as we can. It's blue, calm and tropical in Summer, dark, rough and angry in Winter; whichever season you see it, it's always stunning. This lithograph is based on a storm brewing; you can see the calm before the storm in the distance gathering behind the famous Gull Rocks.”

"S138/2014, 2014" by Selva Veeriah

“My abstract paintings are made without any pre-planning. Intuitively inspired ideas bloom and take shape. The components come together effortlessly moment by moment in the absence of forward planning. The fruits of this intuitive process are compositions that embrace a mix of styles, but, for the most part, lean towards naturalism. This is visible in the types of design and colour that make up the artworks: organic shapes and earth tones. Each piece takes me on a journey of self-discovery.”

"2181914, 2014" by Anthony Crammen

“‘2181914’ is a gloss and acrylic painting on canvas. Using the pattern of the human brain as a starting point, I then added colour to transform an unusual image into something bright and bold, creating the perfect juxtaposition. Using a combination of gloss and acrylic interlinks two very different surfaces to create a three dimensional layering texture that jumps out of the canvas. All hand painted by myself, this reinforces the repetition that can be seen through all my paintings and sculptures.”

"Catalina Casino, 2013" by Tatiana Roulin

“Last year I spent my birthday on Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles in California. It was an unforgettable day with many adventures. Catalina Island is a paradise and is simply a beautiful place to paint out. I created several small pieces of places I visited there to show people the atmosphere and the whole beauty of this place. This building, Catalina Casino, was never actually a gambling place; it was used for dancing and as a movie theatre. Nowadays it attracts thousands of tourists each year as its interior walls retain the original Art Deco murals by John Gabriel Beckman.”

"Big Wave , 2014" by Gwen Duda

“Water. It's ubiquitous and we take it for granted but it's a life form unto itself. Whether it lies smooth as glass on an endless lake, gently ripples and laps at the shoreline or kicks up into waves to either ride or run away from, water and it's magical transparency or translucency captures and refreshes both mind and body. I use acrylics paints and texture mediums to capture the essence of a large wave cresting and rolling with white spray sprawling. It's a gorgeous piece capturing the crest in all its magnificent colour and energy!”

"Harebells, 2012" by Irene Wilson

“This painting was inspired by the blue bells on the banks of the canal bowing their heads and blowing gently in the spring breeze. It is produced using negative painting techniques where the image is formed by painting around the subject leaving behind the white paper. I leave this layer to dry and then paint another flower, this second flower takes on the colour of the paint I used to define the first flower. I leave this to dry then paint the third flower, this takes on the colour of the paint used to define the first and second flowers and so the image builds. I have also added some speckling along the way to build interest.”

"Acrylic on paper #66, 2013" by Frederic Belaubre

“Contemplation / Light / Tree foliage / Primary silence. From this stability, the clusters of flowers in buds are preparing to burgeon. Tender germination, saps of colour coil and unfold in the rhythm of a spring of paper. Streams of light flow from angle to angle, weaving, thread by thread, the web of joy. Thank you for letting your eyes get lost, for a moment, in this fragile budding.”
