  • My inspiration on holiday at Spekes mill sea meadow, Hartland, North Devon

    I am on holiday on the Heritage coastline of North Devon in late May 2025. I am in a beautiful sea meadow full of wonderful nature. The colours are inspiring and the view as I looked across across to the sea through the meadow inspire me for my new watercolour collection.

    Plein air watercolour paintings on the borders in late Spring

    I have had a wonderful time today on the borders of North Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. I went sketching with my ladies sketching group and we walked from Bourton village to the top of the ridge to see the views, beautiful trees and delightful meadows. The sky was moody which illuminated the colours of nature even more. We all decided we will do more field studies in this amazing historical area not far from where I live.

    Finding a scene to paint at Blandford nature reserve in Dorset

    It was Easter Monday and I came across this wonderful scene on a walk at Blandford nature reserve. A local area not far from where I live. The light was perfect and might even go back there to paint it very soon !

    Walking the bluebell footpath on the edge of Rushmore golf course in an area of outstanding natural beauty the “Cranborne chase”and on the border of North Dorset. I come here throughout the seasons and I am going to create a watercolour from my experience plus inspiration.

    Painting a sunset heath scene in the Art Garden Studio, Shaftesbury, Dorset

    I am making the most of the sunlight in the studio today and my inspiration was Stoborough heath in Dorset. I used bockingford watercolour paper and a three colour technique. Wet on wet washes were applied and then a build up of colours for the bracken, gorse and grasses.

    It was lovely to have the sunlight in the Art garden studio the other day and this is where I teach, create and show my unframed and framed watercolours in the hilltop Saxon town of North Dorset. I have been showing and teaching for over 18 years here.

    Thorncombe woods nature reserve, Dorset

    I filmed this beautiful area of the Dorset heath near Thomas Hardy cottage a while ago and I am inspired looking at this video on my YouTube channel. I will have to go back again in springtime. I created the Rushy pond scene in watercolour which are on my Artfinder shop, now sold.

    I have been creating, selling my watercolour originals and teaching watercolour techniques in the Art Garden Studio for 18 years or more. I am incredibly grateful 🙏 that my family, friends have helped me along this art journey pathway and my supportive, customers plus art students. Thanks to you all. I look forward to producing more naturescapes in 2025!

    Waiting for the fog to clear and seeing this beautiful light over the sea and the Cornish landscape. This was my inspiration on my recent Christmas holiday staying at Manderley farm and a very special place. I created this original watercolour on location.
