    Two days of under-painting almost completed. These water paintings are built up in layers of oil colour with the under-painting done in opaque colours and subsequent layers (glazes) painted with transparent colours to provide depth to the painting. It's quite a time consuming process!

    The latest in the Tranquillity Series, number fifteen and quite a large canvas at 130cm square, here at the very early stages of drawing out. It will be more than a couple of months before this one is ready to come out of the studio!

    Some of the koi are finished, others still being painted and the water together with the bubbles have yet to be tackled. Just a few more days work.

    starting LIBERTY VIII

    starting LIBERTY VIII

    First day on a oil new painting, the next one in the LIBERTY Series, a big one and one of three canvases that I'm working on now. This oil primed super-fine linen canvas measures 130 x 110 cm and here I am making all the layout and composition decisions drafting out using cobalt blue. The next stage will be the under painting then followed by a few more layers and hopefully the painting should be completed by the end of September.

    Here's the next in the KOI ANTICIPATION series on the easel with the under painting nearly completed - but plenty more to do and it'll be several more weeks before the painting is completed! Yes it's a big canvas (72 x 122 cm) and a small brush!
