  • 'The Egg Shop' Exhibition Information

    'The Egg Shop' Exhibition Information

This is why my current exhibition in Deptford is called The Egg Shop. I wanted to represent something to do with Deptford High Street that would still link with my style of art, so I recreated the sign from the front of an odd little shop that used to operate from number 49 and just sell eggs! When I lived there I loved this, and I loved the sign. The shop has since closed but you can just about see the sign peeping out from underneath the replacement one (I think it's a furniture shop now). So the egg shop painting is an exclusive one just for The Job Centre exhibition, organised by Deptford does ART. The rest of the food on display sort of links with Deptford and South East London, so get down there and see it! Thanks, Ian

    New Art Exhibition Coming Up!

    New Art Exhibition Coming Up!

I'll be exhibiting a selection of my Pop Art Food paintings at The Job Centre Pub in Deptford, South London, from the 4th of March until the 31st. I designed the poster myself. PLEASE NOTE: a handful of the paintings I'll be showing are from my ArtFinder store, so I will be a bit lower stocked than usual. But there will also be a few new paintings and prints on display in the exhibition. Come down on the opening night! The Job Centre Pub, 120 Deptford High St, London, SE8 4NP

Preparing for a street art mural commission

Preparing for a street art mural commission

I'll reveal more details at the time but this is a picture of me preparing for my first ever mural commission. I'll be painting directly onto a wall in London. Part of the mural involves the shape of a phone, so I decided to cut out a stencil for this. Look at that concentration! The image will be based on a painting I previously sold through ArtFinder - https://www.artfinder.com/product/fab-lolly-and-mr-whippy-ice-cream/ Photos and details will follow over the next few weeks so watch this space.

    Pop Art Food Wallpaper

    Pop Art Food Wallpaper

Whilst working on a design project I created a series of PSD overlay images in Photoshop taken from my the Fab Lolly, Watermelon, and fried egg paintings on sale in my ArtFinder shop. I collected them all together into this repeating pattern which I'm planning to use for prints one day, or to re-create as an actual canvas.

    Talenthouse Viber Design Competition

Using elements that have featured in some of my most popular sold ArtFinder paintings, I created three wallpaper like images for a design competition on Talent House for the company Viber. Some of the elements are bound to crop up in future paintings. Take a look at my entries here! www.talenthouse.com/ian-viggars

    New Exhibition In London

    New Exhibition In London

I'm displaying a brand new one-off framed painting as part of the next LHR Exhibition. The brief was 'The Things I Think About When I'm Thinking' so I reworked an existing abstract canvas called Two Sides to the new framed format. The exhibition opens on November the 6th at the Hanbury Arms 33 Linton Street, N1 7DU London, and runs for a few months. The poster was designed by organiser and designer Mr Gresty. Finished new 'Fried Chicken' pop art canvas

Finished new 'Fried Chicken' pop art canvas

The latest in my series of 'pop art food' paintings is this large canvas depicting a standard box of fried chicken, chips, and ketchup. Andy Warhol painted soup cans, I think of this as a modern street / pop art equivalent. And that's me standing in front of it holding the same kind of box depicted. I've lived in London for many years and these type of chicken shops are everywhere, and while I know it is unhealthy fast food this painting is intended as a fun homage to fried chicken and a celebration of city living. Creating the new 'Swimming Pool' collection

Creating the new 'Swimming Pool' collection

This is a composite image showing me in my studio creating one of the pieces in my swimming pool abstract paintings collection. The piece started with an initial layer of white paint then, I drew a grid created using Posca paint pens and a ruler. After that I added several layers of blue, green and white paint using a paint roller to create a layered, shimmering effect. I then finally overlaid a few more suggestions of the original grid to create surface reflections of the swimming pool tiles. The result is a unique mix of abstract and graphic/pop art that combines to make a truly original one-off canvas that's signed on the back and ready to hang in any room in the house. Working on a new abstract series

Working on a new abstract series

As ArtFinder likes us to add images of us at work, here's the first image of me halfway through finishing a new abstract piece that will be part of a larger collection on sale soon. It's loose theme will be water and I will be presenting around 5 new original paintings exclusively through my ArtFinder shop. This is me in my studio, which was a spare bedroom when we moved in. Posca Paint Pens and that small paint roller are two of the essential items I use to create originality in my canvases. I'm working to use both to create a unique mix of abstract expressionism and graphic/pop art.
