Update: A Wonderful Life - White Camellia SOLD & off to good home. A big Thank you to my overseas collector for giving this artwork a forever home.

Hello everyone! No matter where you are, I hope you are safe, happy, and well. Welcome back to my 1st blog of June 2022. While I have this blog published, the camellia tree in this particular painting is still in full bloom. Featured artwork in these studio photos – A Wonderful Life - White Camellia – Original SOLD. By HSIN LIN Artist Acrylic on canvas. Metallic Gold paints are used. It actually shines beautifully when you look at the physical painting. I have this beautiful camellia tree in my front yard which blooms gloriously from every Autumn till Winter. Flowers always bloom in their own time without competing with other flowers. I am obsessed with the delightful view of the sunlight reflected on those pure white flower petals, and a bit of yellow/brown/red blended on the flower buds every time I study the bloom. It has become a routine of mine to paint the first bloom of this beautiful camellia tree every year, all of them had found their forever home quickly, now you are looking at my latest interpretation of my favourite camellia tree. The Camellia flower speaks to the heart and expresses positive feelings. The flower of Camellia also symbolizes great passion, refinement, faithfulness, and Perfection. When white camellias are presented to someone, it is thought to bring luck. Visit my ArtFinder for full profile. I truly hope you enjoy this artwork as I do. Stay safe wherever you are & happy collecting. Warm Regards, Artist, HSIN LIN

Artist interview: Creativity is always in full bloom with Hsin Lin. A special Thank you to Mont Marte Art for featuring.

Artist interview: Creativity is always in full bloom with Hsin Lin. A special Thank you to Mont Marte Art for featuring.

How's everyone? Where ever you are, I hope you are all well, healthy and happy! Following up with previous blog post I am back with the part 2 of the interview. A Big Thank you to Mont Marte Art for featuring. Special thanks to Paige Booth from Mont Marte Creative Team. I am pleased to be invited to the interview and be featured on the website. It was a pleasure working with you. Artist interview: Creativity is always in full bloom with Hsin Lin. Published date 11 April 2022 Q: How has your art style evolved? A: I started with some small projects at the beginning, gaining enormous joy and peacefulness from the process. Then I started to work on more detailed and bigger projects, at the same time, to focus on developing my own skills and style -- which is a challenge that I set for myself from time to time, but a challenge I enjoy without a doubt. Q: Where does your mind drift to when you paint? A: My mind drifts to a zone that no one can disturb. I lose track of time quite often in my studio while working on the details, which is also one of the reasons that some of my large scaled works take months to half of a year to finish. It’s pure bliss to be able to indulge in the power of nature and creativity, and to also speak to the world with my paint brushes. Q: How important are affirmations to your art? A: To be honest, the affirmations I have for every artwork are usually what I want to say to the viewer, or it may simply be something that I want to be told by others. You may see the affirmations as a process of meditating within my art practice. I love the fact that whenever I see the piece, it’s a reminder of love. If the collector who owns it can feel the positive energy and have the reminder from the piece, then it will be the most amazing thing. Because I believe words like art, have power. Q: How do you set up your studio or room? A: I have a specific spot in the studio which is just under a sky light, I paint in that particular spot every day. I sometimes paint in the garden, if the weather is great - natural light is always the best. I always paint with music on and I get lost in time. I highly recommend Hollow Coves (my favourite Australian band!) and The Satellite Station. Q: How does it feel exhibiting your work? A: Having your artwork exhibited in a gallery is like displaying a part of your true self to the public. It could be vulnerable in a certain way, but it feels magical at the same time to be able to speak to the world in the form of art too. Q: Do you have a favourite Mont Marte product? A: I own a Mont Marte Premium Watercolour Paints 36pc set and I absolutely love it. The high-quality pigments and great transparency are perfect to work with. It is very handy and easy to set up. All I need is an artist pad, a few tubes, a cup of water for brushes and peace of mind. I often carry the set while travelling overseas and paint wherever I want. There was one time I painted my cat Cadbury (a 9-year-old girl, I adopted from a shelter) at the boarding gate while I was waiting for transport. The process calmed me down almost immediately and some of the passengers who walked passed, even stopped and watched me paint for a short while. I can tell they were enjoying the process too with smile on their face. That particular artwork was collected by an amazing couple in South Australia afterwards, who had just lost their beloved cat, who happened looked very much like my cat Cadbury. Through this artwork they could remember their beautiful cat forever and cherish all of the memories they have together. I remember every moment of it, the joy of painting it, knowing that artwork comforts another person in the big world. And now the collectors are my life time friends. I sometimes feel art is more powerful than I think it is and I am still feeling grateful and blessed to be able to be in this incredible journey. Q: What are the best tips you’ve learned coming into the industry? A: There is no failure in art, every failure is a small step towards your goal. Because we either learn a lesson from it or stop for a short break then come back with full strength. Consistency is key. Q: What are you excited about for the future? A: The future is full of uncertainty, that’s the most exciting part don’t you think? :) Featured Artwork in the interview, available on ArtFinder – 1. Forever Together - Cymbidium Orchids (2020) Acrylic 41 x 51 cm Quote from original post- Before Hsin Lin’s paint brushes even begin to touch the canvas, she closes her eyes and meditates under a sky light in her Melbourne studio, imagining the way her flowers and leaves will stretch and grow across the canvas. She opens her eyes, puts her favourite music on, picks up her paint brushes and begins dipping into her paints. For contemporary nature artist Hsin Lin, creating is a form of meditation, a flow state where she reflects and finds meaning. Most of her artworks are painted in acrylic with each of her artworks having an affirmation to communicate her art’s meaning. These affirmations extend far beyond what’s painted on the canvas, hoping others will find joy and comfort in her art. Q: How would you describe yourself? A: Hello beautiful people! I am Hsin Lin, an artist obsessed with the beauty and the form of flowers. Most of my inspiration comes from my observation of the natural world. A short walk from the studio takes me into a beautiful forest and it’s there that I can touch the texture of the tree bark, observe the colours of the current season and feel the sunlight reflecting on the trees and grasses. I often find myself collecting leaves, feathers and other wonderful gifts from nature that have fallen to the ground. I love to observe these in great detail and reflect their beauty in my paintings. Through my paintings, I see flowers as representing life, when I am carefully building up the tiny flower petals and leaf veins, it feels like I’m trying to figure out the uncertainty in life. It is also a reminder that as the flowers are in full bloom, this is our time to be alive. As life presents itself, you can fight with all your will or you may dance with the flow, either way, human life is unique, one-of-a-kind and this journey belongs to you only. Q: What is it about nature that inspires you the most? A: Being inspired by nature enlightens me in all aspects of life. The message that I wanted to deliver to the viewer are the pure joy and calmness that I experienced during my art process- the natural order, is what fascinates me the most. I sometimes stand in front of the canvas meditating, imitating how the flower grows and extends in my mind, before my paint brushes touch the canvas. Q: Before art, you were working in fashion, what drove you to swap fabric for canvas and pursue art? A: I used to be a fashion designer owning my label. However, after returning to my beloved city of Melbourne, I swapped the manipulation of fabric for the enticing world of paint and canvas, and I have been creating art full-time ever since. Although these two industries seem extremely different, to me there’s one thing in common, - clothes and canvas are all made from fabric. It’s all about what kind of story you want to tell with the medium. Warm Regards, Artist, HSIN LIN

{Press update} Interview with the Artist: Hsin Lin - Bloom Like Flowers. Published February 2022 Maroondah City Council's blog.

Hello to my new friends & old friends. Welcome back to my 3rd blog post of February 2022! I am pleased to be invited to the interview and be featured on the Maroondah City Council's blog. Special thanks to Amy Freund, Editorial and Publications Officer. It was a pleasure working with you really. Quote from original post- Interview with the Artist: Hsin Lin - Bloom Like Flowers Published 08 February 2022 Federation Estate Gallery’s latest exhibition is by local artist Hsin Lin, and explores the beauty of flowers and our connection to them. We interviewed artist Hsin Lin to learn more about her inspiration behind the exhibition, the mediums she uses and favourite flowers. Q: What was the inspiration behind the exhibition? Bloom Like Flowers is a contemporary floral series that I have been developing for years. Bloom like Flowers embraces the diversity and salutes the strength of life by featuring Australian native flowers we love and common flowers we know. It is also a series that I painted to raise awareness of mental health. It encourages people to be nurtured into deeper mindfulness and to cherish the beauty of nature in their local environment. Q: What is your favourite piece in the exhibition? One of my favourite pieces would be the largest piece from my signature series - Bloom Like Flowers, A Life Time Story ‒ Orchids and Roses on Wood Tray with A Weaving Basket (2021). It is also an artwork that took me the longest period of time to complete. Every object in this artwork stands for a different meaning. You may see this work as a documentary of the time that we all went through. When I look into the details in this particular piece, I remember every moment that I spent painting it, sunny days and rainy days. Q: What do you hope viewers get out of your exhibition? I paint flowers to show my happiness and wish to bring positive energy to my viewer. Flowers are celebrations of life. You can see the collection as a reminder that as the flowers are in full bloom, this is our time to be alive. Q: How do you feel your fashion background influences your painting style / technique? To me, there’s one thing in common regarding being an artist and being a fashion designer—that is to appreciate the material that you use, and to explore the possibility of it. Just like designing a garment—you have to think through how the fabrics are attached, how your design will be composed as a whole and give it a new life. As an artist, I sometimes stand in front of the canvas meditating for a long time before my paintbrushes touches it, just to imitate how the flower grows and extends in my mind, following the natural order. Q: What mediums do you like to use? I find acrylic is the perfect medium to interpret my intense passion for the subjects I depict. I love the vivid and opaque property of paint on canvas. In my ongoing contemporary floral series, I use close observation to try to capture as much detail as possible. I do paint with oil and watercolour sometimes to let loose, but acrylic is always my go-to medium. Q: How long does it take you to create a piece of artwork? Artworks from my main series have very intricate compositions and I used a photorealistic approach, with each tiny petal built up by more than eight layers of paint. For large-scale pieces, it takes six to nine months from start to finish. Q: What is it about flowers that you love so much? I see flowers as salutes to the strength of life. Just like every one of us is unique, each flower has a different appearance and different flowering seasons. Each flower looks different, smells different, has its own spiritual meanings. Most important of all, the flower always blooms in its own time without competing with other flowers. That’s the beauty of it and I am absolutely obsessed with the natural order. I believed everything falls into the right places at the right time. Q: What is your favourite flower? My new favourite would be the Australian native flower ‒ Eucalyptus Macrocarpa. I love it so much, that I often visit Royal Botanic Garden just to admire its beauty. The original artwork ‒ A Lifetime Grit ‒ Eucalyptus Macrocarpa (2021) in the exhibition is the 3rd depiction I have done of a gorgeous flowering gum tree in Cranbourne Garden. The former two have found good homes soon after they launched. I especially love the details on the large, ovate grey leaves and the earthy tones of the plant. The rough surface of the gum nuts and the smooth silky texture on the flowers display of greatest strength of life. Eucalyptus flowers also have the symbolic meaning of healing and protection. Seeing a gum tree makes me feel grounded wherever I am and I see it as an anchor. Flowers don’t have to be fragile to be beautiful, they can be strong and tough. To me, Eucalyptus Macrocarpa is the tough kind of beauty. Bloom Like flowers is showing at Maroondah Federation Estate’s Gallery until Friday 8 April. Hope you guys enjoy the exhibition & happy collecting! Warm Regards, Artist, HSIN LIN

It is my absolute pleasure meeting all the amazing people. Much appreciated for your love and support. What a great opening event! Thank you to everyone who made it to the opening, the night was filled with joy, love, and laughter. Below is the full Speech by Artist HSIN LIN on the opening event- “First of all, Thank you, Mayor, Cr Mike Symon, Deputy Mayor, Cr Rob Steane, Maroondah City Council, Arts in Maroondah, and Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery for having me. It’s a great honor. I would also like to say a big thank you to the Curatorial Program Officer, this solo is professionally curated by Gareth Syvret the Curatorial Program Lead, and Andrew Duong. Thank you for everything and thank you for making it happen. Tonight I see some familiar faces. I would like to say hi to new friends, old friends, collectors, friends, and families. Thank you very much for making it to the opening. Words cannot describe how happy I am to see every single one of you, especially after two years of the pandemic. I want you to know that you are important, your love and support make everything possible. Following I would like to give you a short insight into the series- Bloom like Flowers. Bloom like Flowers is a signature series of mine that I’ve been developing for years. Those artworks from the main series have proceeded in intricate composition and photorealism approach, each tiny petal was built up by more than 8 layers of paint. For large-scale pieces, it takes 6 months to 9 months from start to finish. In this series, I don’t care how much time it takes, but I am willing to give it as much as the time it needs to be achieved. Many of you might know I wasn’t an artist my entire life, but I have never dropped my paintbrushes since the day I started. At first, I paint flowers to empower myself, when time goes by, I realized my artwork empowers my collectors, my viewers, and I think that’s the most amazing thing in the world. The best thing I love about flowers is each flower has a different appearance and different flowering seasons. They look different, smell different, have different spiritual meanings. Most important of all, the flower always blooms in its own time without competing with other flowers. Just like every one of us is unique, regardless of our gender, nationalities, and all the differences that you can think of. If we can embrace diversity and all the differences, the world is a better place. You can see it as a reminder that as the flowers are in full bloom, this is our time to be alive. I would also like to conclude my speech with a line from my favourite poem - “Let life be beautiful like summer flowers -By the poet Rabindranath Tagore. To every one of you who visited the exhibition or watching the video right now- Let’s make our life be beautiful like summer flowers. May you too bloom in the best season. Last but not least, all the original artworks in the solo exhibition are ready for new homes. Please feel free to let me or the gallery know if you are interested in any particular ones. Thank you very much and I hope you enjoy the exhibition. “ Solo Exhibition info: Bloom Like Flowers: Hsin Lin Categories: Arts, Council, Exhibitions ➡️ Maroondah Federation Estate Gallery 32 Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood ➡️ View the exhibition: 7 February - 8 April Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm Hsin Lin’s new exhibition and series Bloom Like Flowers explores the process of blooming and our connection to nature.
