They are wearing jackets, but the little boy has shorts and bare feet and the man has rolled up his jeans and taken off his shoes - they are enjoying walking on the wet sand. The boy's mother is gazing out to sea. They look like a happy little family enjoying themselves, which is what made me wish to paint the scene.
