This image is from my “wall cuts” project, panels in the New York City subway where print advertising is displayed. The tearing of paper by “subway artists” to create layered effects, in conjunction with its decomposition, yield images resembling finished, intentional works of art. These panels are remarkable for their intrinsic beauty and variety, and the role that chance and organic processes play in their formation.
This panel features a Coors Light ad, selectively torn to blend into under-layers of other posters, paint and glue, creating a synergy of Pop Art and Abstract Expressionist imagery.
Printed by the artist on Canson Infinity Edition Etching fine art paper with a half inch border.
