Original artwork description:

This self portrait was created over the space of a year. A period of transition in my life - leaving a serious relationship and moving into the freedom of being by myself inspired this hesitant but bold piece.

I chose to paint the portrait on four canvases, placed side by side. The disjointed nature of this reflected perfectly my own feelings of being torn apart in many directions, unsure of which way was most 'me'.

The final piece has a calmness to it, but also a contained sense of anxiety.

Materials used:

oil
