Behind the gardens of the houses is a path along the ridge and the land between garden and path is left to grow tall and hums with the sound of grasshoppers in the height of Summer. One of the houses has a tree planted next to the gate onto their land and hanging from it for a number of years was a rope swing, the grass just beneath it mown in an arc. I always thought it was a lovely sight, this sheltered swing next to someone’s home, hidden under shade of overhanging branches.
I originally drew this as a pen and ink sketch but decided to take it bigger and add colour.
