Paying Tribute to Old Masters
It was incredibly pleasant for me to draw these two pears, consistently observing the Dutch Masters Style technology of multi-layer painting.
It's like meditation.
First I bought these two green pears, quite hard and unfit for eating, but excellent for painting. Then I set them up for a still life, turned them in different directions, set the light, looked for the right angle.
This is followed by an accurate graphic drawing, an exact repetition of nature. I wanted to show the beautiful silhouette of this cute pair of pears, their relationship with each other. One pear seemed to be slightly sad, and the second seemed to whisper something to her, perhaps even love.
After this, I delicately transfer the drawing to the clean surface of the canvas, trying to preserve its whiteness. I tint the drawing in one color, I use dark brown oil paint.
The next layers are colored. I apply thin glazes with transparent oil paints. I work with natural kolinsky brushes, sometimes I help to rub thin layers with my fingers.
When the painting is completed, I dry the finished work and apply a varnish that will protect the image from dust, moisture, ultraviolet radiation, as well as fix the paints and even additionally show their brightness.
The most amazing thing is that I managed to do all these steps today not on a classic linen canvas, but on a special oil paper. I wanted to see if this material could do it, and it won me over.
