Artist's description:

These miniature sculptures are a playful departure from most of our previous work. My father and I were working on ideas for a chess set and my father built one of these small figures simply by flowing brazing rod freehand to create its head and body shape on which to hang a delicately foldformed copper cape. We liked the result, and left it with a long pin as a base, and eventually I made two more to go with it to make this piece.

Something about the quick, freehand process of forming these figures by flowing bronze with just a torch and the tension on the rod being melted lends itself to the creation - or discovery - of figures of great character, as you can see in the close-up photos.

The three figures stand on thin bronze rods, inserted into holes in a marble base. The figures can therefore be rearranged, and the piece will be sent disassembled to protect the figures.
