Original artwork description:

To the deep wood
A late morning walk,
With the sketchy ladies art group,
I find my painting spot in the meadow,
A curving treeline of oak, ash , beech and pine ,
Grasses and wild flowers of May.

Words and experience of seeing this scene recently in late Spring.
I walked up a hill to the top of the ancient ridge from Bourton village, North Dorset. This area is very near to King Egbert's stone where they fought in a huge battle of Ethadun in May 878 , the Saxons against the Danes. Where I was painting in the meadow I was in North Dorset and the deep wood is across to Penselwood in Somerset. I felt so much energy and the colours, wild flowers, trees, grasses inspired me to create this scene.
Original impressionist watercolour on extra rough textured watercolour paper Bockingford 300gsm 140lb. I painted this scene outside in the meadow on a humid warm day. I used my Chinese brush for the background washes and the sky. I then used my Japanese mop squirrel hair brush to sweep in the curve of the treeline. I applied many different colours by pressing, dabbing and mark making with my filbert brush for the trees and flower meadow.
All my original watercolour painting are signed, titled and dated on the back of the artwork.

Materials used:

Extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 300gsm 140lb, Japanese watercolours, filbert brush, Chinese brush, fan brush,
