Original artwork description:

This is a painting from the series "The World of Tita Petita Chihuahua". Tita is my very special Chihuahua. I adopted her when she was 2 years and 7 months 19 days old. She likes to dress up as Characters and has all sorts of incarnations as a Witch, Nurse, Rapper, Sailor, Wonder Chihuahua, Hawaiian dancer etc. She is like the 'Mr Ben' of Chihuahuas. For anyone who is younger than me I will explain who Mr Benn was. He was a character in a cartoon created by David Mc Kee that I watched in the 70's and it was my favourite programme. Every week Mr Benn went to a Fancy Dress shop where the shop keeper would give him a costume to try on. he then went through a magic door opening on to a world appropriate to his costume and then had an adventure. The shop owner always appeared and Mr Benn went back to the fitting room and continued his normal life. So it is with Tita Petita Chihuahua. In this painting Tita is dressed in the style of Carmen Miranda and wants to be a Samba Singer and Dancer like her. I wrote this poem about the painting.

Tita the Samba Singer and Dancer

Tita said if I had the chance,
I'd like to be on stage and sing and dance.
I'd wear a frilly dress, blue, green and red,
And a bowl of fruit perched on my head!
To the music I would sway my hips.
As I sang I would curl my lips.
By my fans I would be adored,
They'd shout 'Encore!' and for me applaud.
In demand I would bound to be,
Performing for Celebrities and Royalty!

To them I would sock it-
Being strange and exotic.
I would like it very much,
Shaking my maracas and such.
I would Samba my friend hey!,
Rumba, Mambo, Merengue,
I would Paso and Tango-
Hell! I'll even fandango!
I would set that stage alight
They'd never forget that night!
