The tidal river esturaries on the southern coasts of Devon and Cornwall are something else. Apparently they are drowned valleys, as they became wide river mouths after the last ice age when sea levels rose dramatically. Often the banks are too steep for farmers to get at them, so they are wooded with dense, atmospheric deciduous woodland.
