Original artwork description:

When looking first upon Shelton's multi-dimensional figures they seem to be cast upon a 2D plane as if Jackson Pollock had thrown the images in an “action painting.” They truly show a new way of looking at the "Sitting Nude.” On closer examination, one can clearly see 3 images juxtaposed within a 3D plane remarkably on a 2D surface.
The viewer is given the opportunity to meander through the puzzle of lines, but once within the movement and tones of color, one can see and feel the influence of Shelton's interest in music. The application of the paint done by "glazing" of thin layers of different colors to bring out the true nature of flesh adds a special warmth and "painterliness" to the images.
Shelton’s use of “Old School” techniques has been used since pre-renaissance and pays reverence to the works of “Old Masters” as well 19th and early modern masters of the 20th century. Shelton’s works don’t focus on the latest “trend” and show Shelton’s 47-year career and eye as innovative and “Avant-Guard.”
