Inspired by the abundance of wildflowers on the hillside around my home, The Wildflower Patch depicts a twisted array of wild iris and poppies. The expressionist dripped background creates a sense of movement and rhythm, drawing the viewer in and encouraging them to explore the detail within the artwork while the contrast between the realism of the flowers and the abstract expressionism of the undergrowth is striking. The chaotic, tangled drip work is reminiscent of a wild, untamed wilderness, while the delicate beauty of the flowers suggests calm and peace, creating a natural, organic feel to represent nature.
