Original artwork description:

These paintings depict the epic story of Dr. Zhivago and the tragic fall of the Russian empire during its civi war.

Dr. Zhivago was a poet who lived between two systems, one which was falling and the other which was forming. His poetry is woven into the visual panorama and depicts the story of Christ, where Christ is himself Dr. Zhivago.

We can see the Russian Christmas, the temptation as well as the resurrection of Christ as well.

The CENTRAL OCTAGONAL PAINTING shows Saint George piercing a dragon which is half man half dragon. Its tail is wound around a female body which represents Russia. She’s wearing a traditional kokoshni on her head and is in a state of lethargy.

CENTRAL LEFT PAINTING - “Russian Christmas”. The drama is set in the Russian winter. On the left we can see the Magi on horses who come to adore Christ and on the right there are shepherds.

CENTRAL RIGHT PAINTING - “Russian Apocalypse”. We can see 4 apocalyptic horses: red black and pale coloured which are galloping and flying over a destroyed and burned peasant village. The man under the red horse represents the grim reaper and the black sun represents the Russian eclipse which is a metaphor for the fallen empire.

3 PAINTINGS ABOVE - represents the passion of Christ.
The central painting is the scene of Christ entering Jerusalem.
The right painting is the mocking of christ.
The left painting is the temptation of Christ.

3 PAINTINGS BELOW - represent scenes of the Russian civil war.
The central piece is a new commissar agitating the audience into accepting the new laws. The sun of the new world is rising behind him.

The right piece shows Dr. Zhivago who has been arrested . The scene takes place in a revolution train. The sun is also rising in the very center.

The left piece shows Dr. Zhivago meets his love, Lara, for the first time during the civil war. We can see wounded people and he has just finished his surgery.

ABOVE EXTREME LEFT painting shows his love, Lara, when she was young. She’s shooting Kamarovsky.
