Artist's description:

An expressive representation of walking through the hills in the West Highlands of Scotland – there are collaged elements in this painting featuring old maps of the area and sketches from my sketchbook done whilst out on the hillsides of Wester Ross. Also a nod to the stupendous geology with some Actinolite Schist thin section reproductions. This is not a particular view but a suggestion of place, the threads pulled together by memory and suggestion.

The red paint at the bottom of the painting was made from grinding Torridonian sandstone sourced in Torridon, Scotland. The darkest paint is made from binding crushed slate powder with a clear medium. This brings the geology from the hills back into a representation of where they came from and how they were formed.
