This work is based on one of my cast glass platters, a dramatic presentation of the creation of the sky and the sea: "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters". The chaos of churning and breaking of the world's seas that this passage presupposes would have been imaginably immense.
The platter itself was formed by casting a slab of glass over a bed formed of the broken remnants of previous glass casting moulds, letting the molten glass trickle down through the rubble, picking up colour as it flowed.
This work is brand-new, created in my woodland studio in 2018. It's one of a new, original, limited edition of just 18, printed in museum archival-quality pigmented inks on acid-free, UV-resistant canvas and board, framed, ready to hang. It's signed and numbered on the front, and comes in addition with a formal certificate of authenticity.
