I love playing with light, to create atmosphere and mood in my cityscape scenes and also with my geisha / asian portraiture. This new large scale canvas, 'The Dream' explores the ideas of light and dark and the figure emerging from the darkness. I was deeply inspired from Italian renaissance art, whilst visiting Florence a few years back, fascinated by the way cloth and fabric was painted, and the dark and rich feel to the paintings. I wanted to use this in my work, exploring the Japanese geisha, the folds of her kimono, subtly lit by the unseen light...
