Pencil drawing inspired by a historical tradition dedicated to the particularity of the sacred icon of the Black Madonna. September 8th, the date on which the birth of the Virgin is conventionally indicated, symbolically represents the popular celebration that began during the time of Spanish domination (1606), when Governor Don José Ponçe Y Lëon had a Shrine dedicated to the Black Madonna built. It is a cult strongly rooted both from the point of view of faith and from the historical, cultural and folklore point of view. Although it seems that the dark and brown color was often due to the smoke of the oil lamps and candles in the churches that tended to darken the original colors, we must also keep in mind the tradition that originates from the Holy Scripture and, specifically, from the Song of Songs: "I am brown but beautiful, O daughters of Jerusalem [...]. Do not behold that I am brown, for the Sun has tanned me." (Song of Songs 1, 5-6). In this case, the Sun represents the figure of God.
