A Thames sailing barge is a type of commercial sailing boat once common on the East Coast of Britain. The flat-bottomed barges with a shallow draught were well adapted to the Thames estuary with its shallow waters and narrow tributary rivers. Nowadays the barges are used for tourism.
This iconic Thames barge is seen anchored up in a muddy creek in low tide, typical of the mud flats around the Thames estuary area.
I like the proportions of a sailing vessel with the tall mast set against a windy sky.
