Original artwork description:

The Tall Ships' Races are international races of training tall ships, designed to encourage international friendship and the training of young people in the art of sailing. In July 1996 this regatta, then called The Cutty Sark Tall Ships' Races, was hosted in St Petersburg. Thus the artist was able to discover the breathtaking beauty of old sailing ships.
The dark tones of this marine painting try to capture the severe beauty of the ships coming from all the seas of Europe, impatient to set sail. The rhythm of the forms expresses here the restrained energy which vibrates in the lines of the yards, bathed in the light of the setting sun on the eve of the regatta.
