This semi-abstract painting is inspired by the setting sun reflecting off the mirror-like surface of wet sand as the evening tide recedes. It was a feature of some time I spent in Pembrokeshire this summer and I wanted to capture it, in and of itself.
I used a palette knife to creates layers of oil paint on top of each other, often heavily diluted to allow the paint to flow across the surface of the canvas. Much like the light and water flowing across the flat sands. I used a broad colour palette, allowing my use of colour to go where it wanted to in the moment.
