The hazy days of full summer are just about the most wonderful time of the year. there is a magical garden at Loseley House in surrey where I used to go and spend hours painting and sketching. in every direction the walled gardens were filled with magical borders bursting with life and colour.
Summer moments was painted en plein air at the gardens. on a deep edged canvas I laid down layers of colour creating the soft background , slowly building up to more defined brushstrokes to create the myriad of multicoloured flowers. Hollyhocks, daisies, rudbeckia nestling below the crabapple trees
the image is continued around the edges of the canvas so it can hang straight on the wall or be dropped into a box frame
