Original artwork description:

About this painting: Snakes head fritillary open their mysterious bells in early Spring, greeting & welcoming the new season. Their unusual markings, unique on each flower head.
Painted during the difficult new year lockdown of 2021, when we have all started to wonder whether life will ever return to the freedoms we have lost, the thoughts behind the painting were about shedding attachment to a certain ways of living & being & refocusing in a new way to making the best of life.
Interestingly the snakeskin fritillary has similar meanings around it in mythology, alternative medicine & shamanic practices. Signifying death and rebirth, letting go, sacrificing `the old´ to make way for the new. Releasing old obstacles. Surrendering to the flow. Giving birth to a new self.
Giving up preconceived notions about who you are or where you are going can be incredibly freeing & open up new opportunities & paths ahead. It may feel like a death of old attachments & habits. Some of the tones within the blooms as I painted felt reminiscent of blood, but that transmuted into the purples of spiritual uplift & rising above attachment. That letting go can be such a gift in creating emotional space to step into much greater scope to find fulfillment.
The painting has a light, Spring like energy which lifts a room.
