Original artwork description:

This piece is part of the Subway Sonnet series, created with oil and paper on 2 1/2" profile museum quality stretched canvas, varnished and ready to hang. The sides are painted silver.

This composition is a bit different from the prior works with more space that is quiet and consolidation of the activity - but still lots of interest over the entire painting.

I came to the idea for the composition while thinking about the Subway Sonnet Series and reminiscing about the 1980s - I would cut out of high school and take the train from Brooklyn into the Village to hang out with art friends. The train goes from top the El down into the tunnel and thru the stations in Brooklyn when it pulls out it picks up speed and well we had so much gorgeous graffiti lining the walls of the stations on the el at that time you would sort of try and get glimpses of it as the train would pull out go from the light of day and start to head quickly underground. But it’s how I got the idea for this piece and the composition and the contrast color blocks and the horizontal thick text - similar to the view I used to enjoy.
