This pencil drawing is a study of a friend who posed for me. The only advice given was to 'think of something that affected you deeply'. I didn't want to know the nature of the event, I only wanted to record the effect through a portrait capturing her thoughts. This image was part of a series of pencils works exploring a wide range of subjects, some of which no longer exist except as photographs now.

The idea behind the work was to capture the psychological through a drawing, exploring how people are affected physically by something mentally,
