I have an abiding love of trees and woodlands, they are a never ending source of inspiration, and this darker time of year, the starkness of the colors, and yet so quiet, that you have time to think, is lovely. I have tried to give you that peace, in this collagraph.
on rainy Sundays I love to play around with collagraphs and mono prints, "Softly Whispering" is a collagraph, but I only print a few, if that, of each version, that is, I vary them so much, that many of them become mono prints, all part of the fun for me! I tend to at most make 4 - 5 prints from the collagraph, as their purpose is to be very creative and not as process bound as my etchings and linocuts.
My collagraph plate is made from cardboard pieces, I add tape, glue, and filler, scratch and cut lines, let the plate dry and then I shellack it so it takes the ink nicely. As the cardboard is fragile,it does not make many prints, something that I as a printmaker also find very relaxing.
I ink up all the separate pieces and put them on the press, as you can see from the image, I have printed this in 3 different pulls through the press, to get the over lapping, and the transparency of the inks allow you to see the shapes underneath, I love that effect.
I have printed my collagraph monoprint on heavy weight Handmade paper from India, so called Khadi paper, it has the most gorgeous ivory color, quite soft and joyous! All the edges are deckled, as you can see in one of the photos and it would be excellent to float in a frame.I have printed with a soft palette of oilbased etching inks.
I have signed the print on the front, and numbered it 1/1, collagraph.
This is a large print, the papersize is 23" x 30" ( 58cm x78 cm ) and I have printed it with a nice surround free.
it fits very nicely in a standard frame, but should really be floated in a frame, something you need a custom framer for! That way you can see the beautiful deckled edge all round.
Please note that the interior image is not entirely to scale.
I ship from my studio in Denmark, wrapped so it arrives safely to you, just say if you would like gift wrap!
Thanks, for looking in my shop, and welcome back.
