Original artwork description:

46 x 38 cm, paper and acrylic on canvas, 2021

In today's society, strange things happen. Young girls as young as 20 show up at cosmetic surgery clinics with not the photo of a celebrity they would like to poke their nose at, but one of their own selfies, enhanced with a Snapchat filter. This is what specialists now call “Snapchat dysmorphia”. This rejection of one's appearance is caused by the abuse of self-portraits and filters. We then dream of ourselves with a thinner nose, more prominent cheekbones, or even bigger eyes. How about dog ears?
In this painting, the young patient is disfigured by the bandages but tries to save the furniture by applying makeup to the little skin that still appears. I carefully chose the pages of a Disney book "Beauty and the Beast" for him: on one side, the modest Gaston looks at his reflection in a metal pan, on the other, Beauty shows her through a magic mirror. Beast. Two beautiful demonstrations of the influence of appearance.

Materials used:

Paper and acrylic on canvas
