"Snack Lady" does a good business at the Hua Hin train station, just a soi away from my studio. When the train stops, she has five minutes to sell snacks and cool drinks before the next train comes. On a hot day I buy her cold, delicious, ice tea. Looking happy and smiling at all her customers, she often gives me a wink. I watch her as I sip my tea move from car to car passing snacks and taking money. When the train pulls away I noticed her pretty green skirt and purple blouse. Right then I knew I had to paint her. When I looked at her more closely I saw her red slippers and looking up to her head, I saw jewelry in her hair. These are details that an artist does not always realize, but those are the little things that make a painting special.
