“Evening Star” acrylic and ground mica schist on slate roof tile
Each slate painting emerges from the unique surface texture of the slate – I work with the natural grain of the rock to define and influence what the resulting painting depicts.
The slates are sourced from around Scotland – many are from dilapidated farm buildings, some have been given to me by friends. It’s amazing how many old slate tiles are lying around when you start looking for them! I trim the slate to an appropriate size using a slater’s axe and clean any moss off them. Many still have a worn hole in them for the roofer’s nail; I like these as they remind me what the slate was originally used as.
The slate fixed to a handmade wooden mount finished in bright white.
These are fairly heavy (around 1.5kg) and will require to be securely fixed to the wall.
