Original artwork description:

During one of our frequent trips to the English Lake District we decided to take a walk along the shores of Ullswater. Our intention was to walk for about 7 miles and then catch a ferry back to our starting point. After a few miles we reached the beautiful Side Farm, where we were able to stop and buy a tasty cake and some tea. After setting off I turned back and saw this view and thought it would be a great subject for a painting. I quickly took out my sketch book and camera, but almost immediately the sun went behind a cloud and the scene became dull. I decided to wait for a break in the cloud to get some good reference photos, in the meantime I made some quick sketches. To the annoyance of my family we had to wait quite a while for the return of the sun and when it eventually did return we were quite a bit behind schedule. As a result our walk turned into a mad dash to reach the ferry quay before the final ferry departed. We arrived just as the ferry was about to sail. Luckily the captain waited for us to board and saved us a long return walk. I hope that you think that the final painting was worth our wait.
I made the painting in my home studio using the highest quality oil paints on stretched canvas. The painting has now been framed and will be available via artfinder until August 1st 2016, after which time it will be exhibited in Cumbria.
Prints of this painting are available via my website.
