Original artwork description:

This series was made in my first year of graduate school. I had just moved to Tucson, AZ, and culture shock was a very real issue at first. I was completely out of my element, meeting all new people, having to familiarize myself with a new city and a new kind of landscape all around me. I made this series which used the visually jarring affects of stop-motion as a stand in for the re-calibrating it felt like my brain was doing. It was working overtime, trying to make itself comfortable with the new situation, but most of the time it just felt like I was in over my head. The experience of viewing the drawings felt much like my experience in life - unstable, but with an underlying feeling of intensity... even excitement.

Charcoal, Printmaking Paper
