WHAT IS AN ETCHING?: a handprinted etching means that I make, with the help of acid, a copper plate that holds the image. These 3 plates have different printmaking techniques applied to them, aquatint, and line etching, I first print the orange terracotta, and then on top of that, I print the blue table cloth on a separate little dry point plate, taking care to clean the dishes, so they are not over printed in blue. Each time I make a print, the copper plates are inked up again, this means there will be small differences, especially on an image like this, that is printed from 2 plates. If you would like to see me make and print an etching, go to youtube.com or have a look in the "me at work" section here in my shop.
