An old art teacher once told me " if it is not uncomfortable and not annoying, you aren't doing it right". Essentially what he meant was that I was not pushing myself hard enough and that I was not exploring new boundaries. Although I was more of the distant student, because he kept putting me in uncomfortable new styles, his tutoring had reached me. It has been two years since I heard those words, and I still hold onto them. I dreaded his class room, dreaded the feeling of disappointment in myself, and dreaded to hear if he approves. I faught back with views on contrast and color. But yet still,through it all I miss him walking around and critiquing my shading of a figurine or a cork on a bottle.

This piece has brung peace to my mind. It has been the most time consuming as well as draining pieces. It has taken countless amounts of paint tubes, paper towels, cardboard pieces, and hours. In total this piece has taken around three weeks from start to finish. It represents essentially what pure hard work and devotion can produce, pure serenity. This piece was made with a free flowing acrylic background, which itself, took about two weeks to solidify. The remaining image was then painted with only a palette knife and Windsor and grumbacher oil paint.
