Original artwork description:

This is a portrait of Anna May Wong, the first Asian American film star. Born in Los Angeles to second generation Chinese-American parents, she began acting in silent films at an early age and created a remarkable career despite the racist casting policies of the American cinematic industry. An early adopter of flapper style, she became a fashion icon as well as a popular and internationally acclaimed actress. Although type-cast in exotic concubine/dragon lady roles she managed to bring depth and grace to her performances. I wanted to bring this ground-breaking woman to life and capture something of her fortitude, elegance and luminous beauty.

"Portrait of Anna May Wong", 10"x8", original oil on stretched canvas, hand-painted by me, Pat Kelley. Signed lower left, Certificate of Authenticity included.
