This painting is one of a series of paintings exploring the observation of rocks from the landscape of Cyprus. In July 2013 Adam left the UK and flew to Cyprus to begin a six month residency at the famous Cyprus College of Art started by the artist Stass Paraskos, whom Adam had a chance to meet in Larnaka.

Adam left the UK to live and work in another country seeking new ways of making work. These paintings are the result of changing his style of painting practice, influence by the landscape and nature, which also led to him gaining a place on the Flow and Art project in Málaga in February 2014 and his travels through Spain.

The painting was an exercise in observing a still life object and the imagination in how we interpret what we see. Through these paintings Adam explores the colours, tones, shadows, forms and movement of time via shifting light, whilst also, at the time, being drawn towards the Greek mythology of Prometheus and the rise of technology through fire. The second aspect from Kafka's Prometheus poem served as the muse for these pieces, with links also to how we see, what we see and a link to our past via cave art, in the forms and shapes our minds impose on these observed objects.

The painting is framed in a handmade frame from unused pallets and stained using powdered local Cypriot rock and sealed with olive oil from Cyprus.
