With my love of classic kitsch and bright colours, I was bound to make a painting of a rubber duck sooner or later. My latest miniature canvas depicts the classic design rubber duck in bright orange / yellow plastic, floating in a bubble bath surrounded by turquoise tiles. Perhaps it's been inspired by a longer time spent working at home during lockdown, and of course by our own rubber duck patterned shower curtain, which can be seen in one of the photos.

I've painted the rubber duck in my usual pop art, illustration-inspired style, using bold flat areas of colour and black and blue outlines. My aim with my paintings isn't 3D realism, instead I prefer a graphic impact of colour.

As ever with many of my works the design goes around the edge of the canvas making it ready to hang. There's no need for framing unless you want to.

The end result is a bold painting that would brighten up any room in your home, but would probably look best in a bathroom, kitchen, or kid's bedroom.

It is painted in acrylics and Posca paint pens on a stretched cotton canvas. It's signed and dated on the back frame, as depicted.

I've been inspired to create work like this by classic pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Patrick Caulfield, and by modern day graphic designers.
