Original artwork description:

In 1976 Alex Haley published Roots: The Saga of an American Family, a novel based on his family's history, going back to slavery days His work on the novel involved twelve years of research, intercontinental travel, and writing. He went to the village of Juffure, where Kunta Kinte grew up and listened to a tribal historian (griot) tell the story of Kinte's capture.[1] Haley also traced the records of the ship, The Lord Ligonier, which he said carried his ancestor to the Americas.
Roots was eventually published in 37 languages. Haley won a special Pulitzer Prize for the work in 1977. The same year, Roots was adapted as a popular television miniseries of the same name by ABC. The serial reached a record-breaking 130 million viewers. Roots emphasized that black Americans have a long history and that not all of that history is necessarily lost, as many believed. Its popularity also sparked a greatly increased public interest in genealogy.

ROOTS is a one of a kind, original work of art. It is produced using acrylic paint and India ink. I have stayed with my usual pallet of warm “earthy” colors. The text, in the background, is the first page of the book that has been digitally reproduced and laminated to the 4 mil archival grade mylar. The same process was used for the book cover. The portrait and shadow was painted over the background.
There will only be one original. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.
This painting will be shipped in a tube. The artwork is very easy to mount on any type of board: plywood, masonite, foamboard, etc. I include simple mounting instructions with each piece that I sell and also I include a hanging strip and a drywall hanging device. Everything that you need to mount your painting except the board. See the “me at work” section for instructions on how to mount artwork on a board.

If you prefer, I will mount the artwork tempered masonite with a one inch border all around. It will be “ready to hang”, with a hanging strip attached to the back and a wall hanging device that is very simple to use. It will be shipped in a cardboard box. You may take it out of the box and have it hanging on your wall within five minutes. The extra charge is $70.00 for mounting and packaging plus the additional shipping costs. Message me through this site and I will calculate the total costs for mounting and shipping.
