" Maiden with a chubby baby " (Jeune fille au poupon) is an unusual, fantastic and dreamlike acrylic painting on cotton canvas stretched over wood.

The painting evokes the insouciance of a very young mother holding her baby like a doll, the latter with a serious face and crossed arms, as if abandoned to her infant fate.

With a slightly fairytale Ottoman air, this painting depicts a young woman with a long, reborn bonnet and a doll-like face imbued with candor and goodness. She carries a baby in her arms, swaddled like an infant.

Copper-red tones blend with the duck-blue of her dress and the green of her roses, contrasting with the white and copper-brown stripes of the baby's diaper.

The moss-green background is decorated with a fantastical bird with a scabbed bronze body and white wings with brown polka dots, copper-pink gold flowers and a kind of giant horse with a blue tail, which is not revealed... It could well be that this scene is merely imaginary, straight out of a young girl's desire to be a mother and remain a child at the same time...

The canvas is set off by a black wooden American crate frame.
