Artist's description:

This painting is of an Angel removed from its original setting and reimagined. Angels represent some of the best qualities of what it is to be human. They are embodiments of love and tenderness, guidance and protection. They are expressions of loss and the longing, they are healing symbols representing that for which we yearn but often lack in our life.

Alain de Boton writes of the healing aspect of art. This painting fulfils this function. On one level it is the colours and other aesthetic qualities that have a calming effect. On a deeper level the universal maternal image of strength and gentleness combines on deeper emotional level.
