Marshall McLuhan said, "The medium is the message". I love that artists are creative and use different methods and materials to produce their work. Over the past couple of years a number of artists have taken to producing work on newspapers and book pages. Is this linked to austerity, a cheap substrate? Are we concerned with the environment and recycling? Or is it another means of experimentation and expression. Whatever the reason I couldn't help but recall my youth and my grandfather's toilet in which he made his own toilet paper from yesterday's newspaper. In the 1970s my own parents did the same when money was short and we'd run out, hence #Pop Art 3 "In the 1970s...". Newspaper on box canvas, with acrylic paint and stencils.
