Pied Wagtail
An original mixed media painting of a pied wagtail. Photo reference courtesy of Moyra Turton. These little birds with their frenzied flying around while wagging their long tails are just so entertaining, I tried to capture a bit of that madness in this painting.
This painting started as a pure watercolour painting. I started experimenting adding some collage elements, and sealing them with watercolour ground. Once dried another considered layer of watercolour and gouache was applied selectively to help incorporate the letters into the picture.

St Cuthberts Mill paper, Daniel Smith artist quality watercolour paints, gouache
