Artwork description:

This is a small woodcut print recording a journey taken in the landscape. During the journey I collected samples from my walk, including soils and scrappings representing each mile walked.

The samples were diluted in distilled water and the subsequent fungal bacteria was extracted from the sample, then the recorded walked journey of one mile was drawn lightly on the seaweed agar in the petri dish.

The growths from the extracts grow, creating a variety of colours, forms and shapes, each inspiring the production of a wood cut reduction print into an alternative form of landscape art, resonanting with Chinese and Japanese styles of printmaking.
