Original artwork description:

I was painting in the nearby Aveyron river valley in early September. On my way home I almost drove into a ditch, because I was enchanted by the deep shadows thrown across the trees on this beautiful late early autumn afternoon! I immediately jumped out of my car to make a very quick sketch.

So, I returned the next few days at 16.30 to make more sketches, including a watercolour, drawing up the canvas and taking photographs so I could work on this in the studio, wih plenty of good reference; then of course the weather changed.
